The Cybercrime Awareness Programme titled “Mirroring of Current Cybercrimes – Inspiring Netizens Towards Safer Digital Conduct,” jointly organized by CySI and Bajaj Finance Ltd., was successfully conducted on 17th August 2025 at the Anna Centenary Library, Chennai. The session was well-received by attendees and effectively raised awareness about current cybercrime trends and safer digital practices. We extend our gratitude to all participants and partners for making this event a success.
As the President of the Cyber Society of India, I had the opportunity to speak on Cybercrime Trends in India and the security guidelines essential for combating such threats.
I particularly emphasized the growing threat of malicious APK files, which are increasingly being used to compromise mobile devices and perpetrate financial frauds. These APKs often disguise themselves as legitimate apps, tricking users into granting sensitive permissions.
I urged the public to exercise extreme caution when asked to download APK files, especially through messaging platforms or unofficial links. It is critical to verify the authenticity of any application before installation and only download apps from trusted sources.
Vigilance and awareness are the first lines of defense. I encouraged everyone to stay informed, avoid sideloading apps from unknown sources, and always think twice before clicking “Install”.
Together, through informed action and community vigilance, we can build a safer cyber ecosystem in India.
